Blog Three

I thought that the articles Ten Seconds to Love, Decoding Victoria Secret, and Porn were the most provocative and interesting articles. Ten Seconds to Love grabbed my attention because of the way Chuck Klosterman described Pamela Anderson, and Marilyn Monroe. The way he compared them interested me a lot. while describing the two and how they are so much a like yet different something comes up about the way Marilyn Monroe is considered so much more iconic than Pam could ever be. As well as the way Marilyn had a husband that was famous as well for playing baseball, how this could never work in the 90's when Pam Anderson was the male "fantasy". I feel that the information in this article was something that would be important to know because of the way we view our society. Decoding Victoria Secret was also interesting to me because of the way that it started out being for men. Then how they realized that they could sell more if they changed target of merchandise towards women. This is important because of the way that gender roles play out. The last one that I thought was provocative was the article Porn. I thought that this was interesting because of the way that it shows how easy porn is to get to. I feel that this is important because, I believe that this is something that is going to become an issue as to free porn and buying porn.

  1. The task was to select one specific article, not three. When you select half of the readings, it doesn't give you the opportunity to really narrow in on one idea and defend it.

When you say that "this is something that is going to become an issue as to free porn and buying porn," what issue are you thinking of? If it's going to become an issue, does that mean this is an issue that doesn't currently exist?

  2. Post #3: Assigned Sept. 16, 2010

Now that we have read six articles for Popular Culture, look back on those six articles (from Aug. 31-Sep. 14) and explain which of these six articles provides the most provocative and interesting information for the reader. Why is this information interesting? Is this information also something that is important for the reader to know or think about? Why or why not?

The above is what we were supposed to do. It does not say to select a specific article. The issue I was thinking of is that it will affect the people who are making the porn, and how they are going to be able to get the money to continue. This is most likely an issue that is occuring right now, but that not many people are aware of.

  3. The question says "explain which of these sex articles provides." "Which" means "one," particularly when it is followed by "provides," which is a singluar verb. Multiple things cannot "provides."
